Gargagnago di Valpolicella (VR) – The Masi Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the 43rd Masi Award , which since 1981 has brought highly representative national and international personalities of civilisation and culture to Valpolicella: the Civiltà Veneta Award is awarded to the Trieste entrepreneur Riccardo Illy , the Vicenza sculptor Arcangelo Sassolino and the environmental activist and writer Sara Segantin , originally from the province of Trento. The International Civiltà del Vino Award goes to Donatella Cinelli Colombini , a Tuscan producer and pioneer in promoting cultural winemaking movements. Finally, the Grosso D'Oro Veneziano is awarded to the Opera Don Calabria , 'multinational of good' born in Verona, today active in the 5 continents.
The leitmotif of the 2024 edition is " The virtuous circle of Beauty ", which underlines the search for harmony and humanism as a counterpoint to the extreme and aseptic form of specialization and extreme sectorialization in an increasingly technological world. In other words: seeking and building Beauty so that man, with his values, needs and aspirations, can maintain a centrality in the face of progress and technology, while recognizing that they are indispensable resources at the service of humanity.
On Friday 25 October 2024 , after the signature on the Amarone barrel , symbol of the award, at the historic Masi cellars , the awards ceremony will continue in the new multifunctional complex Monteleone21 in Gargagnago di Valpolicella , currently under completion. The event will be enriched by a moment of reflection and discussion among the award winners, moderated by the journalist Alessandro Milan.
“ Beauty is not just aesthetics, but a fundamental civic value that unites us and helps us keep our humanity alive in the face of the challenges of progress, ” says the President of the Masi Foundation , Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti . “ Through the Masi Award, this year we celebrate those who contribute to building a virtuous circle, where harmony, sustainability and beauty, in Veneto and around the world, become a tool for inspiration and improvement for all generations .”
The Vice President of the Foundation and President of Masi , Sandro Boscaini , adds: “The virtuous circle of Beauty leads us to evaluate the enjoyment of beauty as a drive to care for values and common goods. Vines and wine express this concept best through harmony, the beauty of the vineyard landscapes and the aesthetic and sensorial satisfaction of the product. The international award to Donatella Cinelli Colombini recognizes her many years of activity as a producer and her feminine sensitivity in favor of the environment and wine”.
